Read, learn and..........THINK II

Already read up to chapter 40..... take notes of things that you can do and or should do, it applies to city people as well as those living in the outside.

Takes about two minutes to load each ten chapters.....enjoy and learn.

Thanks for posting. I know what I'll be doing tonight. What else should I do than preparedness education ????? At least until I have to be at work (3AM).

Thanks. Trying to learn as much as I can. Anyone hear the interview with John Howe and Jim Puplava today - another eye opener - worth the time. I can say that cause I am using dial-up still

Once there, you can right click and 'save as' on the bottom link and save the whole 611 page book to your cpu.

Re: Read, learn and..........THINK II

Sorry if I haven't been posting all day but I am reading this book on line and it is really good and with a lot of tips for survavalists beginners as to what to do BEFORE TSHTF, in other words the people in the book are doing everything after it happens and then they moved very slow in doing what they should do in two days...... like buying all the food, weapons, ammo and so on.

Like the book shows, use all your fiat at first and then your PM..... if there is power use your plastic before your fiat.

Up till now I have everything pointed out in this book and a lot more......I did learn that I can use gasoline in my lanterns but that's something that I will have to find more about.

You're lucky to be able to read it all at once Ponce. We had to wait 3 yrs and read it chapter by chapter... Was a long wait

He's got another short story that I'll put up here as well.
Halffast is a good guy

I agree......I've been following the story for years waiting on the last chapters.

Lot to learn there.....especially about the function of a community in a PSHTF world.

It would make a very nice blueprint for someone who doesn't know anything about it....... at least everything is being done right.

Awesome read and well put together. I told halffast he should have it published.

I reccomend it without hesitation.

Re: Read, learn and..........THINK II

WOW, sobering read. Very well written. Definitely publishable I would think as fiction. But would become real popular I think PSHTF. I'm still reading. As it currently is, I'm proly toast if this should happen in the next year. No family very close (and the few family I have think I am wacko when I just try to talk to them about metals much less preparedness - they remember Y2K being a non-event (not really a non event, people just don't realize the manhours that went into making it a non event).

Went into work at 3:30 this morning, got home at 12:30 (crashed cause I couldn't get any shuteye before going in - was reading this story:smile: ). We are running a disaster recovery test. There was a mini melt down between two people. The tests are usually stressful (lack of sleep, many people in a small room, hot, etc.) but I don't see this kind of fighting until much further into the test. Unfortunately I have been out for a few weeks recoverying from surgery and getting back into the game I was a bit rusty. Everyday, my job now reminds me how few valuable skills I do have. I can can food - big deal. Looking at my neighbors is not encouraging either. And no one in my sphere of influence that seems to have the concerns so who is there to plan with???

Going to do as Ponce suggested and re-read this story with a pad of paper. The challenge is not getting overwhelmed by all that needs to be done and making priorities to at least make progress. It is just daunting being, as they say, an Army of one. :frown:

Re: Read, learn and..........THINK II

The more that I read it the more that I like it, like I like to say "To be ready is not" and even I am learning a couple of things.

In order to appreciate this story you must submerge yourself into it not as a reader but as one of those characters in the story in order to share what is going on.

I specially recommended it to the new readers of GIM and to use it as a blue print as to what to do in order to get ready and then what to do afterwards......... I know that some of you DON'T like to read and that others thinks that you already knows it all......so, for you family and those who you love please read it.

Read, learn and ....... THINK

Play minds games like I do and specially the "WHAT IF" game.

Re: Read, learn and..........THINK II

That part about running gasoline in your lanterns is only partly true.
It will work, but not long.
When I first saw a dual fuel stove, I tried unleaded in my stove and lantern. I was thinking they would all run on gas, and maybe Coleman was just trying to increase sales or something.
After a couple days they stopped working.
Cant remember what parts were ruined. Inspection revealed stuff was burnt up.
Both my stove and lantern were Coleman, dont know about other brands.
Definitely try a few tanks before you need to.

That is an awesome read BTW, enjoyed it very much.

Regarding running gasoline in the lanterns/stoves, I doubt you'll find a Coleman stove that can really do that.

However, MSR (Mountain Safety Research) who make all sorts of backpacking and mountaineering equipment have stoves which are really multifuel (meant for world-wide use, as backpacking or moutaineering expeditions are often in places where prime fuel is not available, but stuff like kerosene is.

Here's one example:
http://www.msrcorp.com/stoves/dragonfly.asp

Note that it runs on white gas, kerosene, unleaded auto fuel, diesel, and jet fuel, according to their site.

Oh and about Lights Out :D I really enjoy that story... haven't finished it yet, sort of been sidetracked the past few weeks. Need to get back into it.

Yup great read, and thanks for the link.

I had some disagreements with some of the decisions that Mark made, but that's because I'm not as trusting as his character was.

Absolutely well thought out story. No wonder it took so long to write. It is one that I will pass on to many and so should all of us.

Don't know if many sheeple will wade through the 600+ pages though.

I just read this book last month. My wife noticed me reading it and started asking me questions. Now she's on board, and we're full speed ahead on making preparations! I don't know where we're going to find a community of like-minded folks, though. We live in typical neighborhood of sheeple.

Anyone know if it would do any good to buy a used automobile computer from an auto scrap yard and store it in a Faraday cage "just in case"? What other essential electronics in a 1997 GM or 1997 Nissan car would you expect to be fried by EMP?

Your car should be just fine if you store it in a Faraday cage. I expect a lot of farmers will be just fine if something like this happens, mainly because a lot have Quonsets (or the like) in which they store their machinery. An all metal building is perfect.
